Oh Yeah, They're Back: Sex and the City 2 (Soundtrack Review)

Saturday, June 5, 2010

The Sex and the City gals are notorious for their spunk.  Why should the soundtrack to their new movie (in theaters since May 27th) be any different?

All 18 tracks are a real in-your-face to the guys; which, let's face, we all need at times, right?

I thought initially my favorite would be Cyndi Lauper's True Colors.  It dates me, but I love Cyndi Lauper!

Surprise, surprise though!  My favorite actually turned out to be Grammy, Emmy, Golden Globe, Tony and Academy Award® winner Liza Minnelli's version of Beyonce's chart-topper Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)

And what SATC soundtrack would be complete without Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, performing the Helen Reddy classic I Am Woman?

This soundtrack is sure to as a big hit at the movie!  Tracks include:

  • Alicia Keys “Rapture”
  • Dido “Everything to Lose”
  • Cee Lo “Language of Love”
  • Erykah Badu “Window Seat”
  • Natacha Atlas “Kidda”
  • Michael McGregor “Euphrates Dream”
  • Liza Minnelli “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”
  • Ricki-Lee "Can't Touch It"
  • Alicia Keys "Emire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down"
  • Jennifer Hudson and Leona Lewis "Love Is Your Color"
  • Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon “I Am Woman”
  • Sex and the City Men’s Choir “If Ever I Would Leave You”
  • Sex and the City Men’s Choir “Sunrise, Sunset”
  • Sex and the City Men’s Choir “Till There Was You”
  • Shayna Steele, Jordan Ballard, Kamilah Marshall “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered”
  • Liza Minnelli with Billy Stritch “Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye”
  • Cyndi Lauper “True Colors”
  • Aaron Zigman “Divas and Dunes"
For more information on this album, visit the soundtrack's website.  Better yet, just head on over and buy it today

Don't forget to "Like" it on Facebook, and also enter for your chance to win a call from Sarah Jessica Parker!

Brandi Carlile Give Up The Ghost CD Review and Giveaway

Thursday, October 29, 2009

Give Up The Ghost, Brandi Carlile’s third album, unveils her talents in their truest form. After 2 albums and non-stop touring, she has let her guard down and offers her most candid recording to date. If the phrase “give up the ghost” most often refers to death or dying, it can also be used to describe the passing of stages in life, of transformation.

“They say it takes you your whole life to write your first record, and in our case the first two records, and that you have to write your second record in just a matter of months. So we went into the songwriting process conscious of that, and really made an effort to just leave ourselves behind. We wrote about about life, the world, how we felt, how we will feel. In that sense, these songs are like time travelers in that they exist on a much more ethereal plane, and that’s what ‘give up the ghost’ means to us,” Carlile explains.

I'm not sure if this makes me super uncool or what, but I had never heard of Brandi Carlile before until being offered the chance to review her newest album by One 2 One Network.

I feel in love as much with the meanings of the songs as I did the folksy, heartwarming (albeit heartbreaking, at times) sounds.

And as a HUGE fan of Elton John, I especially loved Caroline - cheery and upbeat gets me every time!

Carlile is truly a talented artist. Her music not only seeks to uplift and inspire listeners.

You can purchase Give Up the Ghost at Amazon at other retailers nationwide.

Little Music Lovers for Young Children Review and [Giveaway CLOSED]

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Little Music Lovers Series Classical music is believed by some researchers to cause "The Mozart Effect," a phenomenon that can potentially aid in the development of math, reasoning, and memory skills, while also giving babies and toddlers a head start on learning language.

And what parent doesn't want to give their child a head start, right? Including me!

So I was more than pleased to be given the wonderful opportunity by Momfluence to sample the Little Music Lovers series.

The four CD series for children from Universal Music Classical provides parents with an opportunity to introduce their babies and toddlers to the world around them by incorporating beautiful, thought-provoking music from the famous Decca catalog.

The musical pieces found in
The Little Music Lovers collection were carefully selected for the their melodic content, as well as their impact in enhancing early childhood development. Children will learn from the series, while parents can enjoy many hours of beautiful music.

Beautiful music envelops readers through a wide assortment of tracks that compliment one another perfectly from beginning to end.

While my 9 month old daughter didn't seem to be affected by the lovely sounds filling our home, my preschooler (5) definitely paid attention and even said, "I like that."

Although I may not be their target market, I found myself working at a slower, steadier pace to match the easy flow of the music; leaving me feeling much calmer and relaxed as it came to an end.

Can I assure you that your child will be a little budding Einstein after listening to these CDs? No, I can't.

But what have you got lose? Nothing...except yourself...in the music. :)

Harry Connick Jr. Your Songs Album Review

Friday, September 25, 2009

Harry Connick Jr. is so dreamy! (Yes, I know that sounds old. Don't care! lol)

I have absolutely loved him in television and movies; but I had NO idea he's such a talented singer too!

When given the opportunity to try Connick Jr.'s new album Your Songs, I'll admit I was a bit hesitant. But the oh-so-hot cover convinced me to give it a shot.

Your Songs really takes youback to the big band era with Connick Jr. performing classic songs by some of the greatest musicians of all times; including:

  • All The Way (Frank Sinatra)

  • Just The Way You Are (Billy Joel)

  • Can’t Help Falling In Love With You (Elvis Presley)

  • And I Love Her (The Beatles)

  • (They Long To Be) Close To You (The Carpenters)

  • Besame Mucho

  • The Way You Look Tonight

  • First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (Roberta Flack)

  • Your Song (Elton John)

  • Some Enchanted Evening

  • And I Love You So (Don McLean)

  • Who Can I Turn To? (Tony Bennett)

  • Smile (Charlie Chaplin)

  • Mona Lisa (Nat King Cole)

It was definitely a trip down a memory lane created even before my time, but a beautiful era nonetheless.

While I really enjoyed the album, if forced to be truthful I have to admit that I still prefer seeing Harry on the screen versus just hearing him on an album.

Although he has a beautiful voice to match those blessed looks, I'm just not sure it would be as enticing if the music wasn't from musicians who have already instilled a love of their songs; enticing you to listen to and love them irregardless of who is performing.

But why not give it a try for yourself?

Be sure to also check out Harry Connick Jr. at his website and on Facebook!

Buy It! This album is now available for purchase!

Also be sure to check out Harry's upcoming television appearances:
  • 9/25 – Oprah “Live Friday”

  • 9/28 – Today Show9/29 – The View

  • 9/30 – Imus in the Morning

  • 9/30 – Letterman

  • 10/1 – Today Show

Rock of Ages Original Broadway Cast Recording Review

Friday, July 24, 2009

I am a (proud) child of the 80's. Big hair. High top tennis shoes. Killing the ozone layer with Aquanet. Parachute pants.

Every last bit of it. And I loved it!

Especially the music!

I remember "jamming out" (that's we called it then) to songs such as We Built This City, Wanted Dead or Alive, Every Rose Has Its Thorns, I Wanna Rock and so many, many more!

Now, all those awesome 80's tunes have been reunited as the foundation for the five-time Tony Award nominated Rock of Ages, a new bodacious Broadway musical starring American Idol finalist Constantine Maroulis.

Set in 1987 in a legendary Sunset Strip rock club, a small town girl meets a big-city dreamer and they fall in love to the greatest metal songs of the 80's. The musical is an arean-rock love story told through the mind-blowing, face-melting hits of Journey, Bon Jovi, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Pat Benatar,Foreigner, Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia, Whitesnake and more.

The Original Cast Recording CD features 22 songs from the Broadway show. In the spirit of the original musical, the Cast Recording defies Broadway conventions, with jams mixed and engineered by seasoned hard rock musicians and producers.

If your memory is filled with fond memories that feature boom boxes, neon shoe laces, cassette tapes, or loving St. Elmo's Fire, then you'll enjoy reminiscing the "good old days" with this oldies-but-goodies remixed CD.

Listen to clips from songs from the soundtrack that includes:

Just Like Paradise/
Nothin' But A Good Time

Sister Christian

We Built This City/
Too Much Time On My Hands

I Wanna Rock

We're Not Gonna Take It

Heaven/More Than Words/
To Be With You

Waiting For A Girl Like You

Wanted Dead Or Alive

I Want To Know What Love Is

Cum On Feel The Noize/
We're Not Gonna Take It
(Reprise)

Don't Stop Believin'

Harden My Heart/
Shadows of the Night

Here I Go Again

The Final Countdown

Any Way You Want It/
I Wanna Rock
(Reprise)

High Enough

I Hate Myself For Loving You/
Heat of the Moment

Hit Me With Your Best Shot

Can't Fight This Feeling

Every Rose Has Its Thorns

Oh Sherrie

The Search Is Over

Thank you to the One 2 One Network for this Totally Awesome Opportunity!
